Why we invested in DataOps

Data is the lifeblood of today's businesses. However, we have seen across our portfolio that, for companies managing and scaling data operations, it can be a daunting task. Demands for data products from both internal teams and external organisations are continuously growing faster than the Data teams can process. This is where DataOps comes in. DataOps is an emerging discipline that aims to improve the quality of data, streamline data processes and accelerate product development. Companies can move away from slow or one-off development efforts to managing thousands of pipelines with accuracy.

As we spent more time on looking into scalable solutions, we noticed that DataOps.live was at the forefront of this movement; in 2020 Justin Mullen, CEO, with a 25-year background in Data and IT and Guy Adams, CTO, with a 20-year background in software development, created a unique platform at the intersection of both Justin and Guy’s skill sets. The platform offers end-to-end automation for the development and management of data products. Through the single control panel, users can run pipelines and access integrated third party tools. DataOps.live offers automated deployment observability and testing, as well as governance across an organisation.

We are impressed with how DataOps.live has speedily capitalised on the brand and set itself up as a category leader. This includes being mentioned in an industry overview by Gartner, the Eckerson report, on the Snowflake website as a qualified vendor and through the book DataOps for Dummies. This has not gone unnoticed by their target audience either; in 2.5 years, the team signed clients across various industries, including healthcare, finance, media, and e-commerce. Noticeably, this includes hallmark names such as AT&T, Booking.com and Roche. Expansions have been particularly strong and churn non-existent, which we don’t frequently see in our line of work.

We believe that DataOps.live has all the raw ingredients of a fantastic team, product and traction to become the next category leader in a $3bn market, growing fast.

Therefore, we are proud to announce our co-led investment into DataOps.live with Anthos Capital and Snowflake Ventures. We are very excited to start working with Justin, Guy and the broader team at DataOps.live as they continue their journey to help many brands increase productivity across their Ops teams and across organisations.

Why Notion? A note from the Founders…

“We talked to a lot of potential investors to co-lead this investment round and had a number of criteria. Notion impressed us with their passionate belief in, and understanding of, the field of DataOps. Their Platform team was far more engaged and willing to help than many of the other organisations we were talking to, and they are already actively involved in helping us prepare for our next stage of growth. Throughout the process, we found the Notion team transparent and positive to deal with and we are delighted to have them as part of our team.” - Guy Adams (CTO at DataOps)
