Black Forest Labs is the frontier AI research lab for visual intelligence. Deeply rooted in foundational research, BFL continuously builds state-of-the-art technology to empower creators, developers, and forward-thinking enterprises to bring their imagination to life. The BFL team pioneered Latent Diffusion, Stable Diffusion, and FLUX.1 - milestones that transformed generative AI and made text-to-image generation accessible to millions.

Robin is co-founder and CEO of Black Forest Labs. Before founding Black Forest Labs, he was a research director at Stability AI and pursued his PhD at LMU Munich. Robin's academic journey began with a Master's degree in physics at the University of Heidelberg (2013-2020). His research has centred around making generative models more efficient, contributing to the development of widely adopted models such as VQGAN, Latent Diffusion, Stable Diffusion and Flux. He is a proponent of open-source models.
Prior to co-founding Black Forest Labs, Andreas was a generative AI researcher at LMU Munich, NVIDIA and StabilityAI, where he made significant contributions in the field of image- and video-generation. He is the co-inventor of Latent Diffusion, a generative modeling technique that led to the famous open-source text-to-image AI system Stable Diffusion, which he co- developed. Today the Latent Diffusion technique powers cutting edge AI models for visual media such as FLUX, Midjourney and OpenAI’s DALL-E3 and has been adopted in a variety of related fields such as audio generation, medical imaging and more. Andreas was named one of Germany’s Top-40-under-40 in 2024 by the Capital Magazine.
